When we last emailed, I left you hanging with “I worked…and I worked…and then…”
If you joined my email list after that first email message went out, you can catch up on the story right here. If you saw my article on Rebelle Society, welcome to my tribe of awesomeness!
In hindsight, it’s funny sometimes to see what really made us change our lives. I worked with some brilliant people, but there wasn’t any room to be creative, funky, sassy, or even a little woowoo weird there. They didn’t treat me like the rock star I knew I was despite my working 6 and sometimes even 7 day weeks at crazy hours…when there were great new offices available, there was always some flaky reason why they didn’t give me the great office. For 15 years, I was moved around from windowless space to windowless space.(Please note, I was grateful for the work and grateful for the pay, but man oh man, I longed and yearned for some creature comforts)
At one point, I worked in a closet. If I scooted my chair backward too quickly, I’d hit my head on the wall behind me. But that was an office, and I was supposed to be grateful…right??
The last straw for me came when it was time to hire someone brand new into the company, and as part of that deal, it was time for me to move to another office yet again. I asked for a real office with a window; we had one office with a window sitting vacant. I was told no, that lovely bright office was for someone that we not only hadn’t hired, but that we hadn’t even met yet. There was no one in mind for the space at all, but I couldn’t have it. Ummmm…
That was it, friends. The thing that pushed me right over the edge and out the door was being second fiddle to a person that didn’t even exist yet!
It took a little while to make a change and find a new job that was a great fit. I’m not a digital nomad working poolside from some tropical resort. I am gainfully employed full time by a great company, and my office is my house. Not only do I have a window, I can even open that window when I want! Whoot whoot!!
As I changed my work, I also became more “me.” I’m not bashful about sharing my writing or my jewelry or my tarot reading now that I’m not immersed in a super conservative environment…and speaking of sharing…
I have some new things to share with you VERY SOON! (Hint: maybe a book? maybe a class? maybe both?!) Super soon. Are you curious? Are you excited? I know I am!
Cheers and hugs,
